    Default My 1st box WIP

I am making a box to hold some custom chef knives I had made for my daughters wedding present. Starting with a Salmon Gum log I harvested while I was living in Kalgoorlie. This has been a steep learning curve and I have pretty much moved from one disaster to the next it hasn't helped that I have a deadline, and need to get it to NZ soon. The hinges I bought are to big so I am waiting for others and I still need to flock the knife cut outs. The name plate was engraved by a talented young engraver I know in Orange NSW.

That is very remarkable, well done. Who did the engraving plate for you?

After a few more catastrophes it's done. Couldn't get any stays or brass chain before it leaves for NZ so the stay is 40lb Flourocarbon leader.

Thanks, used the below products. About 8 coats of lacquer with a green scotchbrite rub between every 3 or 4 coats. Then 1200 grit wet dry followed by the Restor a finish and then the ubeaut polish the 1st coat applied with the white Scotchbrite pad. With several more applied with bits of a old t-shirt.
It's a lot of work but it's a subtle shine which I like.
