3 Tier Box
Hey all,
This is a box that I have made for my Mum for Chrissy/birthday (8 Jan).
The design is from the latest Aust. Woodsmith, just smaller and a different lid.
Dimensions of each tier are 125 x 125 x 50, including the footing.
The external timbers are Tea Tree (a big thanks to Shedhand for sourcing it for me. I still have one board left!) and English Oak. The lining is also oak. The lid is a slice from a Grass Tree root. Finish is Trad Wax.
Have a great Xmas a prosperous new year allLast edited by gazaly; 22nd December 2006 at 06:15 PM. Reason: 700th post...cool!

Great job, well done
I am seriously impressed by your box, especially the lid which I find really appealing. I started to make the same design, but ended up opting for something much simpler. Hopefully mine will turn out half a well.

Nice work. The timber in the middle box reminds me of a freshly cut field of wheat.

A very nice example of the craft. I'm impressed with the Grass tree root. Is it stable enough to stand the test of time. It looks like a cross-section of manfern a bit.

I too am very impressed with the boxes. That wood is absolutely beautiful.
I do have a question about the boxes. In the first picture it looks like you have a smaller top on each lower box which the next box sets on. I didn't see how you did that in the other pictures.
Could you explain for this poor old Texas boy how you did that. It looks great.
Thanks

Thanks all
To answer a few questions:
DPB: Didn't see that, but can now. I thought it looked like a wave rolling into the shore!
SH & Billylad: The grass tree is soft, but dense, if that makes sense? I was able to plane it without any trouble. I think it should be OK for a while.
MLSA: See the picture attached. What you see as smaller tops is the base.
Again, Thanks heaps guys and galsGreatest Movie Quote Ever: "Its good to be the king!"____________________________
