Asian style box from silky oak.
Thanks to Greg Ward, I managed to get some Silky Oak boards that were big enough to make some boxes. I also got some more Rosewood and this was used to make the legs on this box.
This is the first time I have ever used Silky Oak and it is a lovely species to work with.
The style of box is like the rosewood one I posted earlier and I like the functionality of this design with a large opening lid and then a full sized drawer below. It is a relatively simple box to make and squares up nicely when glued. The joints are all 5 mm dominos between the Silky Oak and the Rosewood legs.
The lid insert is Walnut veneer on both sides of 6mm ply and is trapped in the domino jointed lid. The box is lined with purple pigskin suede. And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Can I ask where you got the lining from?
For some reason, the colour really suits the style of the box !

spectacular
Absolutely beautiful. I'm so pleased the silky worked out well. Perfect for the job and a nice contract with the rosewood.

Hi Mr Brush.
I got the pigskin from here.
Australian Leather Suppliers - Cowhide Rugs, Upholstery Leathers, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane
Not a huge range of colours in the pigskin but the quality is good and i think very reasonably priced.
Thanks all for the comments. And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Beautiful.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Sensational, especially if you design the box yourself.
