Think I can get a box out of this
Reckon I could get one or two boxes out of this

Some nice boards you got there.
If you want to swap for some straight grain stuff that will split better with the axe for kindling, let me know, Ive got some suitable ones in the shed.

OK. I has to ask now. What do we have here, (apart from potential firewood or firewood boxes)? Is it Qld Maple perhaps?
Some good looking lids, or matched pair of box lids from those really curly ends might be coming to a WIP soon?
Cheers
Pops

From experience, work both sides of the timber. It seems to burnish under a hand scraper and then curls away from the burnished side. A most unusual effect. It is sooooo pretty when finished.

I have used a bit of Tas myrtle and a lot of it like yours. IMHO beautiful timber but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say . I never had any trouble putting myrtle over the planer or through the thicknesser - sharp blades though.
But if you want to throw it out I'll take itI've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

Probably should discard this board because that crack at the top will just keep traveling until you have 2 irregular boards. Of course you could still make boxes out of the irregular boards, match boxes that is.
All joking aside those are some very nice boards and should make extremely attractive boxes.
