Simply glorious box and choice of timbers, Rod, and the drawer/box join is beautifully done.
Yours green with envy.....

Thank's all for the kind words,
Yes the timbers do compliment each other I wondered if both the heavily figured timbers may have been to much but with the very plain of the Huon between them they do work very well indeed in my opinion. I have a couple more bookmatched panels same as the top Myrtle so we shall see what I can do with those in the near future. The join to the box did come up very well I am happy with it cut with a 100t triple chip blade it came up well straight of the saw. It was very important to get the draw square so when glued to the box end they come together well. I am trying a few ideas for a base to lift it a little I shall see what I think weather to use one or not.

Trying a few ideas for base. Just added the same base in myrtle and previous is Huon which do you think.

Rod, it doesn't need a base. Perhaps shallow feet to lift it just a fraction and give a shadow line beneath the box, but you have created such a gorgeous box with a classically simple shape that I think introducing the curves you are considering will just detract from it. Just my opinion of course, it will be interesting to see what others think.

Thanks Rex I do tend to agree I have made a few mock ups and haven't liked any of them I am probably overthinking it and should just leave it alone, I know I am bias but I think it is a nice box also as it is. Possibly just a couple of mm buttons that are not visible to create a shadow.

I agree. Just lift it a couple of mm to create the shadow line. Excellent work.

I thought I should put up a photo of the finished piece ended up with just a set of cork buttons under it to just give a small shadowline fitted some ring holders and a bit of felt to finish the inside.

Beautiful combination of timbers. Very well done.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
