    Default Latest box

This box is inspired by tasSculptor he inspired me with his design and by the timber I have purchased from him over time which is always stunning and this is no exception. The box has had first coat to seal it and I am going to finish the outside before I cut the box and make the draw and possibly base. Blackwood and Myrtle with huon trim tell me what you think.
    Regards Rod.

I would say "stunning" pretty well sums it up.

So nice! It's funny how timbers that grow close by seem to look good together.

Bet there was a bit of scraper work with all that lovely fiddleback.

    Thanks for the replies,
You are right Alex that the fiddle was a bit tricky I have a straight blade thicknesser so yes there was some work to do but my bevel up #6 plane with a 38 deg blade took care of most of it very well. I have been out of action for a few days and hope to get back to it soon.

Couldn't agree more with you there Chris as you well know great timber requires the miller to recognize the worth from the first cut to get the best out of the log for us to have the best to work with from there on and hope to do it justice.

Well I have finished the outside it took a lot of work to fill the voids in the Myrtle those tiny cracks I'd apply another coat the to get a perfect surface every time it would sink back and so I would spot a drop of finish and leave 24hrs and sand and recoat and still a minute blemish but finally it is done.
So its time to do the deed and cut the end, I didn't want to introduce another timber so for the draw I have some quarter sawn myrtle very plain but beautiful in it's own way and I hope a good choice. I can now get on and make the draw.

I finally got back to this I have made the draw and it fits up very well with the cut. the biggest challenge was to get the perfect fit when closed with no movement so there is good alignment between the two pieces. Just have to apply finish to the draw and decide on whether to do a base or not. I am leaning towards not having a base.

I have now sanded and sprayed and sanded and sprayed the draw and now glued into the end of the box ready to final fit.
