First ever box
Hi well this is my first go at a nice box, but it is made from some left over timber from work so let me know what you think. I will reveal what I have used later. although it may be obvious to some, enjoy. It is not finished yet as I have to put an insert into the lid and some hinges.IMG_1338.jpgIMG_1337.jpgIMG_1336.jpgIMG_1339.jpg

Hi Pictureman,
Well, I'm thinking the name gives it away? I'd guess you're a picture framer and have used spare pieces to make the box? It's a very interesting design as a result of the materials, and a great first box.
Is the lining black velvet?
I'll be interested to see how you approach the hinge issue given the shape of the side walls
Look forward to seeing more!
cheers,
Brian

I think that I will need a stepped hinge of some type have to look it up, and yes my name does give it away. I have used some moulding turned on it's side then cut on a mitre saw and joined the lining is black brushed suede matt board the lid is also offcuts of a gold picture frame.

Lovely work ... you have really nailed the finish ... particularly the inside.
Did you use a frame cutter for the mitrers?
I assume that it is s decent size ... dimensions would help get the scale right in my mind ... but maybe you didnt have a banana handy
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob the internal size is 300mm x 200mm and yes I used a mitre saw for the cuts, I have heaps of off cuts that I will be throwing soon so if anyone wants to browse on some drop me a pm and we can organise a time.
p.s they vary greatly in colour and type.
