    Hi Jan,

The YouTube videos show just how good this box is. Thanks for sharing.

    That lid is amazing.

Is this a veneer youve purchased, or was it self cut?

Wouldnt mind grabbing a few sheets of it for myself....

No, I bought a slab of it that was about 35mm thick. I was able to cut enough for 8 lids on the bandsaw

I'm with AlexS. As a box maker that sells on commish I'm always hunting for amazing timbers for lids.

With the internet you'd think it would be easier, but everyone is vacuuming up all the decent stuff very quickly. Prices on eBay are insane.

Any chance you can reveal your source?

That is one awesome looking box

Great to see someone making best possible use of a spectacular piece of timber, i.e. cutting veneers from it rather than using solid. A 'meaty' veneer off the bandsaw (e.g. 2mm thick) still shows off the amazing figure and colour.

Look forward to seeing some of your future efforts !

Yes, much as I like using solid wood, a piece like the lid panel should be cut for veneers to make the best use of it.

I’ve bought veneer from veneersupplies.com in the US. Quality was extremely good and the pictures on Joe’s site were very accurate. Shipping was very expensive indeed. I also had to pay for Quarantine assessment at this end. Overall a drawn out and expensive process, but great veneer. I’ll buy again when necessary, but mostly I can get good supplies from Briggs or, for more straightforward stuff, from Topveneer.

You are lucky to buy off Briggs. Ive found them uncooperative, arrogant and wont sell to people they don't deem fit.

B & B rare woods is a great place to get veneers at cheaper prices and a great place for box makers.
