    Default Next Box

Gday. I'm not very experienced at this internet stuff, so I'll probably stuff this up!
Been making boxes for only about 15 months, progressing from bloody awful to ordinary to not too bad.
For my next box I thought I'd try to inlay a strip into a mitred frame for the lid, using one of those strips from the creative hardware bloke.
Has anyone out there used those strips? Are they any good? Any guidance/suggestions on how I should go about it?

    G'day Bilby & welcome
Not much into boxes myself but suggest you wander through some of the box postsings and have a read and view some of their work.

Default I have inlayed strips in boxes.

Some of the strips I bought, some I made. I'm not familiar with the 'creative hardware guy', but I like the sound of him. Just make sure the strips are of sufficiently high quality that they're not the low-point of the box. By high quality I mean tight joints, consistent wood color, etc. Think ahead about how the mitered corners will look. You can use a mirror to get a feel for this. With patterned inlay strips, people's eyes seem drawn to the corners to check fit and pattern. Don't be afraid to alter the length and width of the box to get a good-looking corner. You can practice your inlay technique and check the look on just a board. Get it down before messing up a box top.
