Thread: Box for Easter

Nice looking box. Bit different with a photo in the lid.

This would make an awesome gift for my wife on our wedding anniversary in June. I think I might have my next project.

Just gave the present to my son's fiancée and needless to say she absolutely loved it and that what's it all about.

At the moment I'm just happy to plod along and learn as I go, I don't think I'm up to the level of the more experienced box makers but thanks for your invite. If there was a box that I would enter it would be this one.

Yeah - I really like the idea of the photo lid... instead of Scrapbooking we can call it Scrapwooding

How about one of those digital photo screens where you can change the photo with the computer or have it on a screen show. Now that's a way out funky-cool box project!

Just discussing the concept of digital photo screens, I think thats a bit much for
"traditional" woodwork but that's an idea.

Yes and No Jack - I guess there's a time and place for it.

One of the things I don't like about modern technology is the inevitable presentation in moulded plastic boxes or aluminum casings - ugly, mass production, soul-less.

Technology products are consistently treated as appliances and not furniture.

I like the idea of say a computer in a beautiful timber box proudly on display as furnishings in a room; a set of loud speakers and HiFi amplifier also beautifully boxed in fine timbers is really appealing to me.

A digital photo framed beautifully boxed also might work for me... and I like the novelty because it challenges me.

Hi Jack,
I just caught your new box and agree with those above it is a good solid well presented box.

However we don't learn with compliments only.

I can see in the pictures that the rear of the lid is not sitting flush. Perhaps the hinge needed to be recessed a little deeper?

Regarding the design, the photo is neat! However I think the base is a little too heavy. Next time I would take some of the bulk out of the base or balance it with a trim around the top. (see below one of my early boxes the balance worked just!)

Good work and yes it is satisfying to give gifts we have produced.
