    Default Box Hardware

I'm making a greene and greene style box. It's still pretty rough, and I'm just starting so I'm a little hesitant to post photos.

But I'm wanting to finish it off with some brass style hinges and screws.
Where do you all buy your hardware from?

Good, bad or otherwise, photo's should be posted. even seasonal professionals get their pieces picked at, but all done in a constructive way, it then becomes a learning point. Even Homer Simpson's spice rack would've got a thumbs up for effort, and then some pointers as -how to - How not to, etc. NO-ONE will ever respond with, that's cr-p throw it out, best you take up a sport. I like many others, like to see progressive photo's. You'd be surprised as to how positive the comments will be, the biggest critic here will be you. You know the flaws, you (my or may not) know where you went wrong, so post away.

back to the subject at hand McJings.

Thanks Fumbler & double.d. They both look like great places to buy some hinges and screws.

Not to be self-deprecating, but it's my first attempt at a box, so feedback is welcome. It's still requiring a lot of sanding to finish the curves, etc.

It is being made using only hand tools. A couple of Japanese saws, a set of narex chisels and some forstner bits I bought from the bargain bin.

It's a small arcade controls box, it'll house a joystick, and about 8 buttons on the lid, and 2 buttons on the front, and some electronics inside.

The sides are DAR pine that I had laying around, the base is a bit of ply, and the top is some veneered pine.

This is the first dry test fit. The pine was prone to chip out, but the base fits in the hand cut rabbet somewhat well.
The plan is to just glue the base in without any hardware.

Some of the joints are better fitting then others. The still need to be sanded down. The plan is to screw in some recessed screws, and cap with some dowel

The top of the base hasn't been planned yet so it's not entirely square.
This is the most hacked joint, The saw drifted a little while I blinked. I'm thinking of redoing this side piece, or squaring it up a little bit if I can without taking the box out of square

This is what it'll look like with the lid on.
Once finished I want to give it a few coats of danish oil, brass hinges and magnetic catch on the front.

The stainless bolts holding the joystick will be replaced by recessed screws capped with some dowel.

That wasn't so bad. Some things work out, whilst others not so much, and for a first box, doing dovetails, it ain't easy. i don't do them yet as too time consuming and tricky. Epoxy can hide a multitude of sins!!. I was thinking that maybe the Stainless joystick retainers shouldn't be covered over so that you can remove if he joystick breaks or are you going to bolt up from underneath? besides it could make a feature similar to a gearbox glove and metal surround

very nice idea about a hand made controller, looking forward to the finished product.
