A box for Lucy
One of the World's special people asked if I could make her a box to keep momentos of her late father, "something simple".
I ignored the "simple" of course and, given complete design freedom, I made a box from wenge and myrtle. I also experimented with a secret catch and, as you'll see in the pics, there's no catch nor hinges visible. When it is closed the lid is held tight to the box and there is no clue as to how to open it.

Everything about this box just works.
Is the last photo of the lid open on its hinges? It looks like it has been completely detached.
Is the catch magnetic? (That's the only way I can think of completely concealing a catch.)Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Thanks guys, the lid does come right off. The 'secret' is that the centre panel on the lid is pushed down, this disengages a catch, and the lid slides off sideways. the centre panel returns with the catch springs and and the4 same springs clamps the lid firmly to the box.
You can pick the box up by the lid and there is no movement relative to the box.

Bugger,
I'd worked it out as a slider.......now I'll have to re-think that.
Very clever stuff Fletty
