| | Box making timber-anyone intersted? Hi there.
I usually hang out in the sawmilling forum and didn't even know there was a box making forum!! Anyway, I have been milling and salvaging Tasmanian and local timbers for about 15 years, but only as hobby. I supply small quantities of high grade timber for special projects as well as the musical instrument trade. In the next few months I am having a big clean-up and going through all my old packs of timber, sorting the best from the slighlty rougher. I will be docking out plenty of short material that does not suit for most of my projects and thought there maybe someone out there interested in a few mixed pallet loads of shorts. Species include, huon, king billy, black heart sassy, blackwood ( f/back and birds eye), myrtle, leatherwood, as well as redgum (birdseye and true fiddleback ie. merino wool style), black box, elm, etc. There is even a good deal of tiger myrtle hidden somewhere in the shed. Most of the timber has been milled for at least five years, but a lot back in the late 1990's when great logs were still available. It is predominantly 1", 1 1/2" and 2" thick.
I have to work my way through about 50 cubic metres in the next 6 months, so I should have several pallet loads of short dockings.
The timber is located at Rochester, near Echuca in north central Vic.
If anyone is interested, they can PM me or call me with their details and what they might be looking for. This is not intended to be an advertisement, just thought it may interest someone, as my 90 year old grandmother has moved out of her miners cottage and no longer needs the shorts for her wood stove. I always did tell her she had the best selection of firewood. She was quite good with the species identification. She always started the fire with huon or kb, only burned blackwood and sassy through the day and overnight used myrtle or redgum. Maybe that's why her scones were so good!
Hopefully someone can put it to better use now!!
Cheers and thanks,
James

What are the approx sizes of the shorts? How much in USD for a mixture of pieces in a box 200 x 200 x 400?
That is the stuff I cant buy over here.
Regards
Joe

| | Hi there,
I have been amazed at the response to my expression of interest for the timber shorts. Just so you all know, I will most likely start my processing of the packs after Christmas. I have no idea what they will be worth, it will depend on how much is on the pallet, but I expect they will be reasonably cheap. A few people have mentioned that a pallet is too much timber, so I might make some smaller boxes up to share the timber around, like bananna box size. Please keep sending me your details in a PM and I will record them and contact you all individually once I start docking and see what I end up with. No promises yet but I will try my best.
Cheers and thanks for your interest,
James |

| | Box timber JAMES,
Thanks for the offer. I would like to get a mixed box. PM sent.
Rob
BTW - anyone visiting Rochester should check out the Shamrock Hotel (great food) and the Sir Hubert Opperman museum, located at the railway station/bus terminal. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
