Two More Boxes
Two more boxes done with timber purchased from Old Croc a few months ago. Both boxes are finished with several applications UBeaut’s white shellac diluted 50% wiped on with a cotton pad.
Box one is red cedar 300 x 180 x 90mm.

Box two is silky oak 185 x 115 x 75mm

A nice pair of boxes and the Silky Oak certainly looks special. Is the tray in the first box covered with leather?
Looks like a couple more boxes in the background of the last photo.Dallas

The silky oak I like too. The contrasting strips add something I think although not initially planned. That box was made from leftovers from the two in the background and the lid wasn’t wide enough for the base so my lightbulb moment to add the strips rather than glue on the extra without.
I can’t take any credit for the tray apart from the ring holders, it was $5 from Kmart and just happened to be a perfect fit. Not sure what it is, possibly embossed paper.

G'Day apple8!
Just some questions from me.
1 - How thick are the walls of first and second boxes?
2 - How thick a the walls of interior insert of the second box?
3 - What is the height of interior insert walls and what is the depth of lower box part? So what is the difference between these two dimensions?
Why I asked these questions - I'm in train of making box with similar design but can't to determine the optimal height of the interior insert walls - elevation over the lower box part.
Regards,
Serge.

Box one is 12mm and box two is 9mm
The insert is 2mm ply from a craft shop
Insert height 47mm, box internal depth 43mm, exposed difference 4mm. The insert is removable.
I did the insert for an experiment as I had seen it done elsewhere. It made the lid a soft close instead closing with clunk.
