Boxes
I have been playing round practising making boxes for a few months now and my wife decided that I should make some for Christmas pressies.
All the boxes have been made out of recycled oak and mahogany that has been thrown out as old furniture on the housing estate that I work on.
The 2 boxes with the offset lids are the pressies.
The box jointed one was to be a gift for my BIL for his business cards but my sister will probably get it before him.

Awesome boxes! Nice work with the recycled stock. Do I see a Friedman influence here? The wooden hinges are cool!

Nice work rt' I like the split lid design although I expected the inside to be divided similarly. Doesn't matter though - very effective anyway.

Why didn't I think of that. Cool split lid - am already thinking of iterations of this idea.
Good work, Rty.

Nice looking boxes. I too like the split top and the wooden hinges. Excellent way to introduce yourself.

Thanks for all the positive comments on my boxes.
I am lucky that I am pretty good at staining putty and filling. I am a painter and paperhanger by trade and this helps to make the mistakes almost unnoticable.
Boxinator...Yes you have picked up the Freedman influence. The major difference in his box is that my lids are hinged instead of swivelling.
The wooden hinges were quite easy to make. They consist of strips of hardwood glued together to form the hinges. They don't require the same accuracy as some other designs.

Very, very nice. You know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Hope you don't mind if I borrow a couple of ideas off you. I like the way you worked the spline color into the top stripes.
Your box joints look very precise.
