    Default New boxes

    Hi all,
Due to work time commitments, my total woodworking output this year comes to two boxes. The first one I did because I wanted a A4 document box. I dug deep into my box of veneer offcuts and found this burl material but don’t know what type it is. The other woods are Aus red cedar and ebony.

    Default another

The next one is made from a strongly featured Euro walnut burl veneer. The solid wood is wenge, I used it because I thought it would be a good poor-man’s ebony. Not really true. The finish is French polish, brush applied then rubbed back and buffed – the first time I have used it and I’m quite impressed. The interior is curly maple – but photos were not good. My wife has commandeered this one as a peg box, I guess its nice to see it put to good use.

    cheers

A peg box er, pegs such as the ones used to hang clothes on a washing line

Arron, if you only make two boxes a year, then those (these) two boxes are VERY well worth waiting to see. They are breath-takingly beautiful!!

    cheers

Very nice boxes, Aaron. They are both very formal, which is perfect for the document box. Surely you can knock up something a bit more 'laid back' for SWMBO's peg box and retrieve that one - it should be in a wood-panelled study, perhaps with cigars in it.

Excellent finish you got on those boxes. Any chance of pictures with the lids open?

Excellent work Aaron. If only you could get the box thrown in when you buy pegs at the shop !!

Will wait patiently for your next two boxes.

    Cheers

Gorgeous boxes! I like the nice clean lines on these and some beautiful veneer work.

    Thumbs up

Work should be outlawed when you have something more important to do...

    Default Great Boxes

Wow, those are nice. If you built that box to put pegs in I would like to see some of the other storage items in you house. Like what the flatware is stored in and maybe the coffee beans and what about the extra roll of toilet paper. Those boxes must really be out of this world.

    In all seriousness, great boxes.

Arron mentions in his second post above the finish on that box was french polish applied with a brush. I assume the first box has the same finish.
    Reality is no background music.
