Cedar Box
I made this box recently and gave it to a lady friend of mine and she posted these pictures of it on her facebook page. so I thought I would share this with you. The box is made of Red Cedar with an inlay of Ebony and I had no real purpose for the box in mind when I made it. I was really experimenting with the inlay on the top of the box and the dovetails splines. No they are not really dovetails. It came up quite well and I was happy enough with it but the photographs I took didn't do the box justice so I am using the pics she took of it. she is a much better photographer than me.
I made the box in the usual way and cut off the lid so it makes a perfect fit rather than making a separate lid. The finish is a clear polyurethane and finally waxed.

Looking at the pictures I can see that the dovetails I spoke of are not visible in the pictures so I am posting this one I took when I had just finished the box before and one before I did the final finishing coat of Polyurethane and wax on it. you can see the dovetail splines, as I call them, quite clearly in this pic.

Nice box and the finish with the ebony makes it a classic.
One thing making boxes, they are so easy to give away.

Very nice

Thanks to Steve
Hi Steve, nice to hear from you and thanks for all that lovely timber. I gave this box to a lady friend of mine who made some bedding for some dolls cradles I made recently (see my thread here)( for a charity give away so thought she deserved something nice. I love working with Cedar it really comes up a treat. Got plenty of it left at the moment.
I should mention here that the box was made from a supply of Cedar that Steve so kindly gave me and for which I am very grateful. Without guys like Steve I would not be able to do what I do. Thanks again Steve. Keep in touch.Reality is no background music.
