    Default Celtic Wedding Box

Celtic wedding box. In Celtic weddings the bride and broom perform a symbolic ritual called "Handfasting", where their hands are tied with a cord. I was given a commission to make a box that could hold the cord and all the other bits and pieces from the wedding day. It had to comply with certain internal dimensions. The timber is Australian Red Cedar, trimmed with Tassie Oak. The carving in the top, a simple infinity symbol with hearts, is the recognised symbol for handfasting. Finished with 4 coats of shallac and waxed.

Very nice Dan. I particularly like the cord edging to the inserts, something I've never seen before so I may have to 'borrow' the idea.

I think it is beautifully done. And the symbols are truly well thought out.

Dan.....an outstanding piece. I like the detail in the lid and congratulate you on the craftmanship.
