Cool Classic Keepsake Box finally finished

This a classic keepsake box that I made for my nieces birthday. I modified a design from the plan which came from Australian Woodsmith. The main modification is that I did pyrographed rose into a solid huon pine lid insert rather than a veneered ply. The timbers are American walnut and huon pine for the lid and the key lock mitres. The internal tray was also a modification.
The main lesson leant was always sneak up on shaped sides. I went too deep and had to remake the base The other thing is that I really need to purchase a flat 90 degree cutting saw blade for key lock mitres or a dado blade. The later seems very expensive as an option though.

The Box is finished in three coats of Rustins Danish oil. The walnut was beautiful to work with. If virtually polished itself just with sanding.
Pretty happy with the final product.

Next challenge is to give it to her later this year. Why you ask? Well I always find giving these sort of things nerve racking as it is always a gamble that it is the style that is wanted or appreciated, particularly teenagers.

If I built something like that, I would not worry at all about giving it. What is not to like? It is very, very nice.

    Hi pwjupp,
Very nicely executed box. I made a document box based on the same plans a few years back.

Teenager? If she has even the minutest modicum of taste she'll adore it...

(...and save all her toyboy band and/or unicorn stickers for her school folders. )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.
