    Default Combination Saw Blade??

    I'm trying to find a good quality (50t ATB+R) combination blade for my Bosch table saw (254mm diameter and 24.5mm bore). I've searched all the local outlets (I'm in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne) as well as the on-line outlets that I am aware of. All without any luck.

    I need it to create flat bottom cuts, for mitre keys initially.

    Looking for any clues from those more experienced than me.

    In my experience a combination blade won't give a truly flat bottom cut, for that you'll want a rip blade with flat teeth. Since I'm on the other side of a pond, I doubt I can help you find a blade but you may get somewhere searching for a rip blade (I have a Freud I like).

    A triple chip blade will give you a flat bottom, but the corners won't be sharp (about 1mm each side)

    Leuco make a 250mm ATB+R 80T with a 30mm bore, so you'll need a reducing bush (http://www.leuco.com.au/Dateien/01-C...wBlades_EN.pdf page 1-18). Being Leuco, it won't be cheap, but they make excellent blades.

    I went through this exercise some time ago and could not find a blade on the local market. I ended up having a blade ground to flat teeth by my local sharpening service for the cost of normal sharpening.

    Thanks for the advice guys, all good suggestions.

    BF That's a novel idea I hadn't thought of. I can find plenty of saws that appear to fit the bill until I get to the bore, most are only 5/8 or 16mm.

    Any saw sharpening service will be able to enlarge it to suit your needs

    If you're having a normal blade ground to give a flat based cut, don't have the teeth ground completely flat. If you grind a half flat, the blade will cut cleaner, and you still get the flat bottom.

    I couldn't even readily find a flat ground ripping blade to make keyed mitres (even rip blades seem to be all ATB), so I just dropped an old 40t ABT in to George at Northern Sharpening Service and he is going to grind it flat. Not expensive and only takes a day or so. I'll let you know how it goes...

    I dropped the blade in on Saturday and it was back in my hands on Monday. The fresh edge on the carbide teeth is very nice, and most of all, the trenches have nice flat bottoms I should have done this sooner and highly recommend it.
