| | Combination Briefcase Locks I am in the process of making a new case for one of my shotguns and need to be able to look it up when I travel. I have been looking at different options and the best one I have found is the "combination breifcase lock" as it is less bulky than others.
Does anybody know where I can get them, I have done a couple of internet searchers and can't seem to find anybody in Australia that sells them.
Hope somebody can help.

Actually, it is an interesting point. I could see a couple of uses for them so if you do ever manage to track them down I'd be interested in them too.
Cheers,
Dave

| | Found these two links. Both quite pricey Replacement Hard Briefcase Combination/Key Locks Latches and Locks to keep things closed.
Found them on Alibaba.com, but min orders are around 500+, which kinda rules them out.

| | I usually find old briefcases at salvo stores and op shops of the like. You can break the lock mech's out easy enough. Usually just some ply under the plastic coating. |

| | Not sure how secure you need the lock but you will not secure it well using a combination lock.
Some "high security" briefcases use "coin locks" or "cam locks" some using pretty fancy cylinders. Typically the cylinder has a hook at the back and can be quite secure. Google "cam locks" or have a chat with your local locksmith. They can be as expensive as you want and there are low cost versions.

Hope somebody can help. | Is there a legislated (or similar) security spec for a portable gun case?
things like
material (i.e. steel, minimum 1.5mm thick)
lock strength
or is a locked canvas bag sufficient -- I'm thinking of locked mail bag
I ask because my son is interested in target shooting and I may need to start carrying a rather expensive .22 around

The case was made by my Father-inlaw a couple of years ago it,s just 10mm pine, I will be covering it in pig hide.
Ian
As far as I know as long as the case is lockable. I have seen some people just using a gunbag with a lock on the zipper.
I do a lot of trap shooting around the state and have no trouble getting my guns on planes in a locked case.
