Couple of Tea Boxes
After a long break from boxmaking here are a couple of tea boxes I made recently. The Incra jig was used to make the double double dovetail joints for the corners, as well as the wooden hinges.
The lighter wood is Beech (and some Maple after I ran out of Beech). The darker wood is Jarrah. The lids feature Blackheart Sassafras veneer for box A and figured King William Pine veneer for Box B. Finish is 3 coats of danish oil followed by a coat of wax.
The boxes are made entirely of wood (the hinge pins are bamboo skewers).
The little piece of wood between the hinges at the back of the box acts as a "stay" and stops the lid tilting past 95 degrees. My next challenge will be to have the stay action built in to the hinge itself.

Gees these are nice boxes. Good to see the Incra jig being used to it's full potential, it is a marvelous piece of gear. The contrasting timbers certainly work well.

Very nice indeed, I've always wondered how those dovetails were made.

Glad you didn't decide to stay away forever but came back to inspire us (certainly me anyway). They look like a work of art.
