Hi Peter
I would try to steer you into a Jet (Performax) or similar if you can afford it.
I had a Carbatec drum sander, but the little motor that moves the transport belt was not nearly strong enough and it constantly overheated. I replaced the motor with a new one, but the problem persisted. I sold the Carbatec one, warning the purchaser of the problem, but they bought it anyway.
I now have a 22-44 Performax drum sander and do not have any problems.
I realise that Jet etc are twice the price of Carbatec, but there is a reason for that.Bob Willson

Never had a motor problem.

Just a quick question to the owners of a Jet 10-20, how happy are you with this sander? I have seen they ard still available and I'm thinking about this model as an affordable option.
Thanks Peter

So long as you never need to sand anything wider than 20" you will be ok.

Hi Brian,
I saw it on display at Carbatec Melb but on asking if they were in stock I was told "not until October". I guess that probably means not this year so I am back to the process of looking for a secondhand "quality" unit or buying the common $1000 option new.
Regards Peter

Thanks Bob but unfortunately they are all a bit too far from Melbourne.

Thanks, Peter.
The late Roger Bean (an excellent boxmaker from the US) used to sing the praises of his Jet 10/20. I believe it was the only sander he used, preferring either scraping or hand sanding for finishing boxes. Having sanded through veneers using a ROS on a couple of boxes I now understand.........

That's better than the reply I got when I asked about an Oscillating 22/44 for our club - "discontinued"!!!!! I only bought one for myself from them about 3 months ago Emailed Jet themselves as most of the US mobs are out of stock too and they put me onto a supplier in the UK - got a quote for about $600 more than buying mine from Carbatec but it might be too much for the club. Sounds like Jet are behind in their manufacturing and/or Carbatec are just dropping all their Jet lines Wish somebody that actually keeps gear in stock would take over the Jet dealership for Oz.

I got mine cheap when Gregory Machinery dropped the Jet line a few years ago, when Carbatec took it up. Looks like Carbatec is getting out too
