Dungeon Master box ideas
Hi all,
One of my friends is a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons and he generally runs our gaming sessions as our Dungeon Master (for those familiar with D&D).
I want to make him a nice wooden box for his birthday but I'm not sure what the layout and design should be.
I was hoping there might be a couple of woodies into D&D or gaming in general who could give some advice on layout. Photos would be amazing but probably a long shot.
I'm thinking that the general dimensions would be maybe 250mm long, 140mm deep and 100mm high? Im torn on whether to just have dividers inside the carcass pf the box or to make it with a few layers of trays and make it a bit higher?
Honestly he's a very nice guy and would probably be happy with anything but I would love yo make him something really special.
For wood i was thinking maybe something like Tassie Blackwood or Spotted Gum for the carcass and a lighter wood for the insert like Stringybark, Grey Coast Box, or maybe even something different like Sydney Blue Gum?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Furns

Is this just to store his D&D guides and paraphernalia or are you envisioning something more complex? Storing miniatures?
Maybe something likes the box unfolding to create a DM screen with drawers, etc. built-in?
Or perhaps a wooden version of something like this?

Im thinking something more to store his dice, pens, minis, tokens etc.
Not big enough for printed guides but more for his general bits and bobs so he can have them all together and save some table space, which he can then use to have those guides and maps etc. in easy reach.

A small apothecary chest would give you plenty of small draws for holding dice and minis....
something like the following, or search for something to your taste.

Could be made with relatively simple joinery. Customise your drawers as needed. Could make it large enough to fit the dungeon masters guide. fit's with the "feel" of D&D as well.

I also found this site if anyone is interested. Lots of nice gaming boxes and little trays and organisers.
