    Default Dusteaters Sheoak

I think the members here are very lucky that we have the ready supply of some lovely timbers from other members that we just could not find elsewhere, well i haven't been able to anyway.
So thanks Dave for making this sheoak available to us

We are lucky to have members who are able to supply some great Australian species and this Sheoak is really nice. What finish did you use as it has really enhanced the grain?.
I see the lid insert looks like a full piece of Sheoak. Is that glued in place or can it float with humidity movement?
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Ruddy, i just coat once with hard burnishing oil, leave it to dry properly and then some beeswax based furniture polish.

The lid is a single piece and before glueing in i chamfer the 4 sides leaving the top edge sharp or just 1mm of flat surface. The only time i've had problems with this method have been when a box is left in direct sunlight which in this case makes the lid shrink but once they cool off the gap closes again. I guess we are lucky in QLD because the higher rate of humidity keeps timber stable.
