    Default Fiddly but rewarding...

One of my favourite clients (deepest pockets ) wanted some pocket-boxes for their business cards made from Central Highlands timbers instead of the usual silver-plated type everyone else has. Made a couple of prototypes for their approval and got an order for a dozen so I made 18 which left some for my gallery. Modified slightly from the prototypes for a better feel in the hand with the faces slightly curved and the ends rounded fully. Damned fiddly to make but a few temporary jigs to help with the glue-ups made easier work of it. The finish is Osmo hard-wax which will hopefully stand up to the constant handling. Trickiest bit was also the very last step so I was clenching my butt-cheeks the whole time - drilling the lids for the magnets - the lids are 2mm thick and less towards the ends so fitting the 1.5mm thick magnets was . . . . . tense!!!!

Sorry about the quality of the pics - had some trouble with the white-balance - might re-do them for the website methinks!

Fantastic! Great design and execution, would love to know how you make them. Small items like these can often be the most demanding of creations, particularly when it comes to machining them safely. And as far as the glue up goes I'm sure it would be like trying to do it with toes without the jigs.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures long the way. If they ever want another batch I'll do a WIP

lovely work, and very precise which is what is required with these types of products. I have thought of doing similar items but finding punters to pay is the problem.

Fortunately the veins in that log were very thin - doesn't go far below the surface. More concerned about the 4 Beefwood boxes 'bleeding' down the track a bit - but they insisted on local natives and you can't go past it for looks!
