Thread: Old film canister box

This is an old film canister that was given to our son some years ago.
He gave it to my wife who sat it in the garden as an ornament with a pot plant on it. Under an eave, so out of any rain.
Then it was moved to the spot where things go when not being used.
It was there for some other years.
I decided to improve it by building boxes to go inside and give it to a friend for his 60th, a year late but he won't mind.
The recipient is fond of old and weathered things.
So the boxes were a bit of a challenge as it wasn't straight in any way.
A bit bashed about you might say.
All materials were already on hand.
The Myrtle was offcuts from previous projects. The sides of the myrtle box were from a drawer in a damaged desk I picked
up from hard rubbish and are pine. I had the leather at the bottom from previous things.
The box on the other side has a USA postal lock box front that I got from a forum member some years ago.
The Oregon top is from an old wardrobe that came from a nursing home my wife worked in that was being discarded.
The sides of this box is ply from a box that an x ray machine was delivered in to a work place I work at.
the bottom of this box that has the lovely figure is from the packing crate that my planer / thicknesses came in.
Finish is Danish oil, a couple of coats only.
