Default Finger joints / box joints

If your box dimension is say 240 x 340 and the timber is 19mm thick, do you add the thickness of the timber to each end of the piece you are going to cut to maintain your dimensions???

I would imagine you leave your four pieces of timber cut at 240 and 340. To give you your outside measurements as you said. Your internal measurements would of course then be 202x302.

Or maybe the dimensions you quoted were intended to be internal (you didn't specify), in which case you would allow a smidge over the wall thickness at each end to maintain your required internal dimensions. The smidge extra is to allow the joint pins to be slightly proud when glued up, so there is material available to sand flush and smooth on completion.
