Flocking. Is it just for looks?
Hi all! I have been asked to make a small jewellery box with a normal box/tray like section as well as a section with a row of little pockets (like a row of oval shaped dowel) holes for individual pieces. It is important that the pockets are lined with a felt like material to protect the pieces.
My question is would flocking be appropriate for this? Does the finished product simply produce a felt looking finish or is it soft like felt and therefore meet my friend's needs?

I've found that flocking tends to 'wear' in places that see a lot of rubbing. So I'm thinking felt would be more durable in your situation, although fiddlier to apply.

Flocking Powder
Agree with Skew on this, the flocking powder is good in an application where there is not a lot of use.
The felt would be better for high use areas.Jim Carroll

IMHO, suede leather is far and away the best-looking lining for nice boxes. This thread shows how to form inserts using it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I must say the suede look is awesome although for this project felt will be the go.
