My First Foray into Boxmaking
I made this urn for my brother in laws ashes to be buried in.
Made from quilted Queensland Maple.
3 days of reminiscing.

Very nice piece of work. Is that black rim around the lid a separate piece of wood or a dark varnish to give the effect?

Thanks for the comments everyone.
FP2 - I recessed the lid 6mm into the sides and then cut the join out and inlayed a 3mm strip of ebony. Then bevelled the top so the edge of the bevel ended up 1.5 mm down into the ebony so half the strip is on the bevel and half on the side.

Nice work. That is a beautiful box and the timber looks great.

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Nice work. The Quilted Maple looks great and the Ebony highlite is a master touch.

BTW where are the pen pics?[/quote]
Arthur - I have made 4 pens and am heading back to China in June, so will get the other 9 finished and post some pics.
Thanks again for the kind comments. I must say its a bit ironic. Its probably the only woodworking I have done well enough not to need burying.
