    Default George Nakashima box

I don't usually like copying designs, but in Nakashima's book "The Soul of a Tree", he has a sketch for a clever little box that I thought I'd like to try.

The result is attached, in rose mahogany and southern silky oak.

Well done, Alex. those partitions / dividers are awesome the way they fit into the sides. The base is interesting too, would love to know how you did that

I don't have a problem copying designs, unless of course they are copyrighted. I think imitation is a sincere form of flattery

If I do see a box design that I like, I copy and paste the picture into a collection of box styles for my family and friends to choose from. For my current two boxes ( one a late Xmas pressie still under construction) my sister and youngest daughter both selected the same design independently. It was a photo of one of the boxes I saw last October at Bungendore Wood Gallery
    regards,

    Dengy

Thanks fellers. Dengue, there's nothing special about the base - it's just a piece of silky glued directly to the sides, mitred around the edges. Not the best practise, but the box is small enough (160 x 160) that I hope expansion & contraction won't eventually split the base.

AlexS, our box is in daily use and your accuracy is outstanding. Thanks again.

You always make 'simple' look so slick!

I can't work out the joinery on the corners though - are the sides somehow interlocked into the corner pieces or an I trying to over-complicate things???
