Gifkins Dovetail Jig - Canberra stand
At the show this weekend and trying to do a little about the stands. I have no affiliation with any one, just things I have found interesting.
If you are after a dovetail jig you might give Col & Pam a call or email them

One piece of helpful advice that never goes astray is maintenance. With tools, cutting edges and moving parts we need to keep them clean, and sharp.

I will try and get more info while at the show if anyone wants to know anything

I had a look at this when he was in Perth, I like the idea and it is so easy.

I bought the complete Gifkin dovetail set and router table at the wood show in Brisbane the year before last and could not be happier with the Gifkin gear. So easy to use and does a great job every time
Cheers
Tony.

Me too
I bought a Gifkins kit at the Melbourne show last Friday.
I spoke to pam and Col who were very friendly and extremely helpful.
I stayed and watched his boxmaking demonstration and immediately thought that this was the system for me.
I have considered a dovetail jig for quite a while now, but until seeing Col's presentation I was not sure which way to go.
I am happy using a router by hand, but the idea of mounting the router and moving the jig around certainly has it's benefits.
Now all I have to do is buy a suitable router and build my own router table.
I am leaning to the Triton TRA001 because of it's well thought out design.
BUT I have mostly Makita tools, but alas the Makita range do not seem to suit a mounted position.
And certainly does not have the features of the triton range.
If anyone out there has some experience with the triton range, I would be grateful for your thoughts.

I have Makita almost permanently fixed to a triton router table.
Just of interest I was talking to Sam of Swarts Tools and he is bringing out a soft start 1/2 router for about $120 or so. I an quite interested to try it our. I have 2 Makita's and a hitachi.
I'm off to the fire zone tomorrow but will try and post a pic of my router base when I return.

Check out the finger joint setup gifkin use and the boxmaking set of router bits , if they still sell them . They did when roger still had it and the boxmaking set make life easy and give you boxes that you will be proud to display

I too watched the demo by Col it surely is a great little jigger.
i have many Makita tools and they have lasted the years well, as too my AEG drills etc.
i have my Makita router mounted into a triton table, adjusting the height is ok. Changing the bits is a bit problematic but I get by. Getting the router out of the table to use by hand is something I do not look forward to.
Watching Col using the Triton router and seeing how easy it was to change a router bit and adjust the height well I thought to myself how easy is that. Whilst on the triton stand I perused the triton router and it is a well thought out router. On the carbatec stand talking about other stuff the triton router vs my Makita router was put simply to me as
"Your Makita router is one of the best hand held routers and you have adapted it to fit a table. The triton router is purpose designed to fit into a table".
One tool to change over bits vs two spanners
collet pops up to table top to change bits
height adjust in microform any position
i can see in the future I will buy a triton router to fit into the triton table and probably screw a new mdf top over the existing top to make it flat (flatness hasn't worried me yet) then I can use my Makita as a hand held.

Hi Peter, I bought the Triton TRA001 and it is amazing. I then built my own router table based on the table on the Gifkin Site. Mine is a tad smaller, but it suits me perfect. It's as easy as to use. No more standing on my head with my old triton router table and makita router. I think I got out of my table for about $200, should have been much less but I ended up using 25x25x3mm aluminium supports to remove a bit of sway I head. Its perfect now.
I'll see if I can put the link here to my thread.
