The box latches finally arrived so just waiting to go and get some small tin snips to cut the rear corner protectors to fit around the hinges and that will be the outside complete and later this week when the felt arrives I will be lining the box. Have already put 4 coats of shellac on the box as well

The box is now fully finished, just waiting for second coat of beeswax furniture polish to dry and it will get a buffing. The one thing I have learnt for next time is to make the box with allowance to cut the lid from the assembled box not make the lid separately.

Once I finish rebuilding one of our coffee tables that had sat outside and the MDF top got damaged I may look into another box build

Do I take it that with all your new found skills and woodworking tools that you won't be putting an MDF top back on the table?

No not at all my partner had it when I got together with her 12 years ago, I have made a pine frame which the inside has been rebated and will be putting some canadian cedar in there which is the wood that I used for the top of the lid and the bottom half of the box in this thread. Have had a few frustrations with some of the miter joints on the table top being cut in the wrong direction so I lost count of how many times I had to start again and joints not going together properly which caused me to play hide the muck ups so there has been alot of filthy language coming out of the garage lately.
