Default A gift to say thanks

I was recently the lucky recipient of a work colleagues clean out and in that clean out came lengths of Blackwood, Silky oak, about 100 lengths of Ebony Perfling (if that's the correct name), a small box of Honduran rosewood, and other assorted items. so in return, my pan is to turn Blackwood JB Fountain pen then house it in this puppy, made from a selection of the timber I received. The colours might be off as it was done in excel quickly.

    Here's half the load,

Here is the design, outside, Silky oak, small inlay the Honduran rosewood top. Underneath is an unknown dark timber, and inside will be felt.

    Wish me luck

You may also see that the base insert is just a bit undersized and as such there is a tiny gap of 1mm. I thought I had cut the lengths undersized so all I had to do was then shoot the end to fit but I got carried away. And I actually had a spare base in case I ballsed it up. No drama as on the bottom, far not bad for a first box. I might try and fill with epoxy and sawdust. I will be a lot more careful when doing the lid insert to ensure no gaps.

Instead of glue and saw dust try a sliver of the same timber glued in instead once sanded it will disappear.

What does/or did your friend use all this nice timber for?
Lucky you have the Triton with the wind down rear window. The tub can be a bit short sometimes on these twin cabs.

The silky oak was from a tree taken down in 1994, so we'll seasoned, not sure about the Blackwood slabs. The purfling, Honduran rosewood, cedar, paulownia etc, ie the rest, was given to him from a guitar maker. So should I decide to make a tune too, that's also now a possibility. As I was given a mahogany guitar blank plus about a dozen butterfly panels. I'm a lucky boy. The hugs doesn't think so, she thinks I'm just doing someone else's clean up job. She's not that bad. She's impressed with the pen and box so far.

off to mcjings for some concealed barrel hinges.
