These gauges are just the thing for use with the lock mitre bits. I had a look at the US site and decided that I could afford the smaller one so I started to order it. Came to freight and they wanted $56 for delivery (plus the $29 for the item). I immediately cancelled the order.

There doesn't seem to be any real problem to making one of these for oneself if a decent picture (or even better a DXF) was available. I have a CNC machine and I am confident that I could cut out one of these in under 10 minutes if I had a sample. Even attaching the magnets isn't a real problem. Just a bit of glue.

Hi Bob, Timbecon sell them here in Oz and I don’t remember it being anywhere near $86 ($29 + $56) for the little one?

Hey Bob, i have one you are welcome to copy. i spent a half hour initially when i got it trying to set it up but it was a bit of a pain cause when you attach the guide to the bit it sits on an angle, not plumb, making it difficult to set the fence.

    Thanks for that double.d.
I see you are in Brisbane, what suburb? Is it relatively close to Oxley?
If I manage to make a DXF then I will put it on the board in the CNC section for all to use.
Once the DXF is made I really cannot see it taking more than 10 minutes to cut one from 2mm or 3mm aluminium.
After that, just rub a bit of paint into the grooves and glue in the magnets.

Those ones are probably too big, but even so, 50 magnets for $15

I have a small confession to make. I thought that I already had two of these bits, but I had not used them for some years. When I went to find them they had gone and the fairies had replaced them with one of these: https://www.timbecon.com.au/routing/...ing-router-bit and one of these: https://www.timbecon.com.au/routing/...int-router-bit.

However, I am just now ordering a set of these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3Pcs-1-2...0AAOSwvVBZeTGL cheapies to test them out.

    Hi double.d
It is a bit of a muchness for me.
On balance, Slacks Creek would probably be the best as I could call almost any time during the day then.
    Thanks again

    Sounds good Bob.

Bris Aluminium @ 4 Judds Court, Slacks Creek.
I'll leave it at reception but ask for me, David, and if i'm there i'll come down. Will give you the bit as well so you can compare.

So, I went and saw d.d and he gave me his Torquata lock miter bit and an original Infinity jig for same.

They are INCOMPATIBLE. They will not work together. The Torquata bit makes the jig sit at an angle and it will never line up because of the physical shape of the bit. I have taken a photo that shows where the problem is.

    Update
I have simplified the jig and made it from two parts acrylic 2mm thick. (I tried for 1mm but I couldn't find any locally.)

I have cut this on a laser cutter. After I had drawn it properly and discovered why the original would not work, it took less than minute to make the jig. (Plus glue set time.)Attachment 423546Small lock mitre jig.dxf

Looking at the picture of the Infinity jig you can see that it does not touch the edge of the bit with the 45deg slope of the jig. It MUST do so or everything else will be out of line.

If you have the Torquata bit and Timbecon sold you an Infinity jig to go with it, ask them for a refund as it is unfit for purpose.Torquata and Infinity jig.jpg

Hi Bob, I’m sure they are compatible. In the first picture, if you pull the jig DOWN and then push LEFT, the long edge of the jig will follow the 45deg cutting edge and the little stub on the jig will touch the point on the lower cutting edge where the 45 degree line would intersect it. The infinity jig has, so far, worked accurately on CMT, carbatec and woodcraft router bits. The way the jig works is that it locates the intersection of the 45 degree line and the stub cutting edge which should then be at the middle of the timber thickness.

    Hi fletty

Yes, I had noticed that the jig could almost be made to appear to work that way; so long as you hold the jig in position with one of your hands as otherwise it bounces up on the magnets. But the positioning is not then correct. Sliding the jig up and down changes the centreline by a lot.

I attach a couple of drawings from the Infinity people that shows exactly where the jig should sit. If it is not there then the centre lines will not be in the correct positions for the cut.

I have redrawn the jigs to make them smaller.

The final jigs are attached as DXFs

The smallest jig will do both the smallest and also the medium sized lock mitre joint bit and the largest jig will do both the medium and largest bits.

The advantages for these jigs include that they do not overlap the edges of the bit and so make accurate adjustment easier.
