    Default Handplane Display Chest.

When I built this, I thought I'd try to display some of my Siegley planes in a different way.
This display chest is one that I came up with. The timber is nothing flash, only KD and ply.
Still I think it makes for something different!

If there's any other idea's on display box's for planes out there, I'd love to see them!
    Hope you like.

    That's too good.

Been planning to build a plane box, but nothing like that.

Fantastic job. (Was gonna say beautiful, but it sounded girlie.)

It doesn't necessarily matter what the timber is as it is all in the presentation which you have done very nicely.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Very nice! Did you use the planes in the making of the box?

If they had had colour cameras back then, that would have been the advertisement they would have used for sure! Amazing work - love it!

Thanks Guy's, glad you like it.
Yes I did use the Siegley type 3 (thats the one in front in the pics) to make tongue and groves for the chest.
But needed a Stanley 45 for the mouldings, it chatters a bit on the KD. But over all if you watch your timber selection, pretty good.
The lettering on the inside of the lid, is from an old add.

Once you've got a layout, you can draw it straight onto the timber.
Or copy and inlarge it, so as you can either etch or transfer the design onto the surface.
Then it's just a matter of painting it.
I'm no pro, but one thing I have learned. When you do those little fidderly bits, "Dont breath"
    Cheers.

That's gotta be an understatement, if ever I heard one.

Hand-painted! Even more brownie points. Great work. I thought they might have been decals. (I know what you mean about holding your breath - I'm cutting out small, fiddly inlay pieces at the moment, burning the midnight oil.)

Sometimes I think people really think I'm joking about not breathing!. But it can make a big difference.
If your in a position where you can lay your forearm down onto the work, It's not so much of a problem.
As the weight of your arm stops the movement of your breathing, reaching your hand.
But if your not in a position to do that, every time you take a breath the movement is transfered to your hand.
And its at that point, it works best if you Hold Your Breath.
I'm totally with you on the midnight oil. Alot of the time when your doing work like this, your better off when theres no one around.
Or maybe its just because as I get older, I really injoy the quite times!
    Cheers mate.

Beautiful display and very much in keeping with the subject of the display.
