    Default Hinges for small cabinet

    Hi everyone,

I'm just starting a new project making a small bowfront cabinet (see pic). The job is about 28cm across by 48cm high.

One of the challenges of this job will be finding the right hinge for the piece. The plans recommend an 'L' hinge which I've sourced from a US supplier. Unfortunately they are $US43 per pair which is bordering on the ridiculous, although I'm sure they are perfectly lovely hinges. I've attached a pic of them as well.

Does anyone know of a local supplier (Google has let me down) or an alternative that would work. Bear in mind that the doors are curved slightly so that would affect the fit.

    Many thanks

    Warwick

These are known as Knife Hinges and are a lot cheaper than US $42.00
A short search revealed Anton Gerner. where they are about A$26.00/pair (+postage)
Even Brusso Australia have Knife hinges at about A$42.00

    Regards,

Default Agreed, Anton's hinges are great - and good value

Hi, I second LGS recommendation. I have used Anton Gerner's hinges on a few projects and have always found them to be superb. They fit neatly and are top quality finish. I highly recommend them.

Default have you tried to make your own?

It's not hard to make your own knife hinges with some brass. I recently made a cabinet with a curved door and made some out of about 2mm thick brass - not the offset kind in your photo which you probably don't need, just straight with the one end rounded off.

Here is an article from 1990 which shows how it's done:
