    Default Hinges for high school students

    I'm teaching Industrial Technology to Year 10 students. We're making simple finger jointed boxes from 10mm pine as a first project. I need a source of cheap butt hinges that will work with this thin material. There are lots of nice solid brass ones available online, but these are too expensive for this project.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Leon,

    If Hardware.com is too hard, I just got some from Bunny's, they were a little bit dearer but they were in town, I think about $2.70- $3.00 per Pair. solid Brass and did what I needed, couldn't get screws from there, lucky I had some at home.

    If you are using finger joints and thin stock, its not that difficult to go one step further and make some wooden hinges using finger joints.

    Thanks everyone for your help, those look like good suppliers. In the end I found a stash of hinges the right size in a store room at school. They look like they've been there since 1972 but they'll do the job.

    The wooden hinges look great but would be WAY too difficult for these kids, they have trouble marking a square line let alone anything more challenging.
