Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
The design is far from mine, Paul's box was my inspiration. Woods are Jarrah & Sassafras with homemade WOP as the finish. This is a birthday present for my wife and was finished just in time
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Well hey there Corbs, that box does look rather familiar. And I must say you did a pretty good job of it also. I got my plans for that box out of a book I purchased, it's in my cupboard somewhere. Took me quite a while to make it also. However I have now sold that box. A woman seen it and wanted it and insisted she has it. So its gone to a good home.
Just as a matter of interest, how did you make your ring holders. I've got a couple of ways, 99% happy with them, but not 100%.
Great job, you must have studied my box in great detail.
Regards, Paul

Paul, plans would have made things a bit easier but I just came up with a design as I went. I put a poorly concealed secret compartment in the back under the ring holder as well to use the wasted space there.
My ring holders could have been done better but are just 19mm black poly pipe with stick on felt wrapped around them and hot glued to the tray.. They are quite hard though so if I do another down the track I may look at some softer hose or other options which will be a bit more flexible.
This one took me a bit over a week to put together. I would have liked to use more figured woods but I had the materials in the shed so went with themIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Hi there Corbs, Very interesting about your ring holders, and yes that would be rather stiff what your using. I am currently using two methods. First method is the same as yours except I use a product commonly called "gap filler". Bunnings sells it in packets from about 5mm I think up to 15mm in diameter. It's a foam product, but not quite as soft as I would like it to be. If I want the 20mm diameter then I go to Clarke Rubber. They would have been the ones I used in that "cufflinks holder box". I used to use a hot melt glue gun but they are so messy particularly if some of the glue happens to fall over the ring holder. I now use a good quality glue. All my ring holder sections have a piece of felt adhesed onto a piece of cardboard which sits neatly on top of my base. Also very handy should you just want to pull it all out and have it bare timberor start over again. My second option for ringer holders is to buy some 12mm foam also from Clarke Rubber, then stick on some adhesive felt or suede, then double it over. But you need a fair depth for this to work. As I just leave it there alone with no glue. I would use a few of these doubled over to create a nice soft spongy slot. In that other large rosewood box I put on here recently, I used that method. It stays in place very well, but as I said you do need some depth. You could slide a bangle or bracelet down into that with no trouble at all. I've currently ordered another product from hong kong which might be a lot softer than the "gap filler", it hasn't arrived yet. Regards,Paul

Thanks for the info on the ring holders Paul. I'm not much of a box maker (I've probably only made two or three) but if I do another then I will look into the materials you've just posted
