    Default Another Jacaranda.

I had a number of 40mm strips left over from previous jobs, some figured and some straight grained so got the idea to cut them to 36mm squares and glue them together alternating the grain direction. Not a bad outcome considering the 45 degree cuts on the box and lid took some perfecting. The handle is solid Brass rod. The heat is playing havoc with the lid as you can see with the gap in the lid. As soon as i bought it inside the air con did its job and the lid straitened out.

Thanks Matt, i've been trialing one coat of hard burnishing oil and then traditional wax but am not overly happy with the outcome so will seek some advice.

Great work, Double D, I really like the handle. It would be very satisfying to feel that lid sit down in its' mitred recess. Not sure about the rubber mesh in the bottom but the inside looks good.

In the beginning the rubber mesh was used because it was on hand at the time. I use a mixture of this and leather and to this day i've only had one person shy away from the mesh. I refuse to use that ghastly Purple, Green Blue etc felt.

    Thoroughly agree. Ghastly.
I think the nicest fabric for box work is 'butter suede.
