Default Jewellery Box with a touch of Asian influence.

Having done a document box I thought that the Asian influenced design would also suit a smaller jewellery box. I had cut down a few reasonably large She Oaks from the front verge of my property some years ago. Some sections had been slabbed, milled to around 15mm thick, spaced , strapped and stored in a cool spot for about two years. On checking they had maintained their shape but had spalted nicely. There was just enough to make the box that i had in mind.
With a bit of thought and juggled dimensions I managed to put together a box with a particular character having matched Jarrah with the spalted She Oak.
Size : 210x 150 x 85 o/a. Finished with 4 coats of Kunos Oil then buffed with EEE and then Canubra wax.
    C&C welcome

Very nice kcam, congratulations. It is a truly beautiful box. I like the contrasting colour of the legs. That handle is a class act too. How is it attached to the lid?

Can you tell us a bit about spalting and how it occurs? Did you know this would happen when you cut the tree up?

Can you please tell us how you fitted the jarrah insert panel to the lid frame? Looks like it is flush with the frame top and underneath
    regards,

    Dengy

The handle is attached by two 3mm dia. dowels using kabab skewers inserted 4mm into lid fixed with super glue

Spalting happened in this instance due to the log being milled, stacked, strapped together and stored in a cool place when wet. Other times I have wrapped wet sawn timber with Cling Wrap to minimise moister loss.

The lid insert has a routed tongue that fits into a groove in the picture frame.

    Hope that this helps....Kerry

Well I have been told that it is a keeper at least until it goes to one of the grandkids.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments.....Kerry

The Asian design really impresses. The wood combinations are beautiful.Your workmanship and attention to detail make this exceptional.

Beautiful work , you should be proud.

Can I ask how you fixed the handle to the lid....epoxy ? or some secret method ?
