    Default Jewelry Box

Here's a jewelry box I made, which has been claimed by SWMBO!
Figured Red Gum, Birdseye Huon, finished in China Wood Oil and Trad wax.
Its about 300x200x100mm. The knot is filled with casting resin.
Used the following tools: Carbatec band saw(17"), Kapex, C12,Rotex150 and a DTS400 delta finishing sander. Finished to 4000g.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Very nice indeed.
The top panel looks as though it has two bookmatched pieces and a third piece. If you have more of that stuff it could be fun to look at the possibilities of variations on the bookmatching - centralising the knots etc.
You have raised my sights a bit on what I can do to make a few presents.

    Hi Fencepost,
Thanks for the kind words. No prize for guessing for what's on my gift list this year!
It is indeed bookmatched, the third piece just isn't as obvious. All three pieces came from a square (60x60)that was given to me by Shedhand. Unfortunately the knot was at the end of the piece.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hi Watson.
Sure is. I used the Rotex from 80 grit up to 400 grit (orbital mode), then oiled, sanded at 500, 800, 1200, 1500g then moved to the Festool Platin 2 pads at 2000g and 4000g (equivalent as they are a nylon type pad) in RO mode. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are available at 500 and 1000g as well. Cost $4.00 each, but can be washed and reused several times. They give such a great finish for application of Trad wax, you may even be tempted not to use EEE first. The pads have no holes and can be used on any 150mm diameter eye and hook system.

    Regards,

    Rob
