    Default Small kingwood box

Simple little box. Kingwood and curly maple.

Very attractive box with striking grain and contrasts. If you have more material it would also look good with the materials reversed so that you have a kingwood top with its marvellous grain patterns and the maple as sides. Show us more of your "simple" boxes.

Great looking miters there Ciscokid - and in a really hard, dense wood too.
How did you make your miters?

Thanks for the kind comments. The miters were done by simply cranking the tablesaw blade up and setting my mitre gauge for 45 degrees. I have a good aftermarket mitre gauge and have carefully setup everything else on my saw with a dial indicator and a magnetic base. Kingwood is extremely dense and hard. I've heard that it is so heavy it will not float but do not know if that's true or not. It blunts tools rapidly and the dust is high on the toxicity scale. But it is very close grained and takes a nice polish easily. There is no finish on this box - just buffed it out with the Beall buffing system and wax. I like the idea of doing a reverse combination of this box. I've got loads of both timbers in stock so look for one soon.
