A littl'un
My SIL asked me to make a box to hold an heirloom watch he had been given so I put this little number together. Originally thought of doing a turned box but wanted to try out the Incra iBox I just got . Couldn't picture hinges on such a small box so decided to go for a sliding lid but didn't want it to look like a pencil box - how do you think I went???
Best finger joints I've ever done - not a single bit of chip-out and perfect fit but it's more due to the timber than the jig or operator - the Emu Apple machines better than I ever imagined I've only used it for turning until this so a few big ones around here ought to be shakin' in their boots now

Very nice.
And you succeeded, it doesn't look like a pencil box - looks like what it is, I reckon.... Steve

Simple and beautiful Vern, very austere.
I've had my iBox sitting in it's package for a month or so now, how easy is it to use and set up? Did you use a router table or table saw?-Scott

Nice one Vern. Elegant and simple, just the right style for that watch. On boxes, I actually prefer the look of well done finger joints to dovetails. What did you line the box with?
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

A box very suitable for such a watch.
I am old, cannot see how the lid sits with its trench. Would you tell me, please?
Thanks, Bill.

Good one Vern!! Totally fit for purpose and beautifully made!!
Wmu Apple is a highly under rated timber IMHO. Got a bit here somewhere awaiting attention.

Thanks for all the comments everyone - I was very happy with it too
I had a bit of work to set mine up because I have a sliding table-saw and the slot in the slide is too narrow for the supplied mitre-slot bar. I basically had to file down a piece of 12x12mm bar to 11mm one side to fit in the trench and fit that to the jig. On the upside, I can also slide it to the far end of the slide to use it over the router which I fitted to the end of the fixed-table - best of both worlds! Once mounted, it didn't take too much to set the rest up and it only took one or two practice cuts to get the idea of it - couldn't believe how accurately it repeated the cuts. The DVD that comes with it is a great help when you're setting up - worth watching though I never bother reading a manual
I've still only ever tackled 2 dovetails and I don't think I'd fit enough in 30mm for it to look any good . I made a 'form' out of EVA foam rubber (only 'cos I've run out of that bubbly packaging stuff) to fit the watch and covered it with black velvet (bought a bucket load of it years ago). The 'flap' to stop the watch rubbing on the lid is glued to the base to stop it dragging through with the lid but the 'form' is just a push fit.
I might have confused things with the 3rd pic as the lid is facing the wrong way The end that is toward you actually goes into the trench first so that the thin section across the lid covers the end wall of the box. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the update. Have you considered making wood hinges using the ibox?

An excellent piece of work I would like to have. It looks like you have fun making that! Simply outstanding!

I made some out of Gidgee using my own jig on the table-saw a while back and the iBox would just make it easier and more accurate still - will definitely be more coming but I don't think I'll worry about Incras accessories to make them - too restrictive as far as design goes

Now it needs a neck & some strings.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I am not being cheeky but first impression was a pencil box. Then seeing the watch gives it a scale, I might think the lit being like a raise panel would give it a different view.
