Question Looking for Box Book Titles

    G'Day and Hi,

After browsing thru this forum I find myself hooked on learning and practicing this art. A lot of absolutely fine pieces of work posted. I'll be working from a wheelchair (mostly) and the material is light enough for me to manage. Big stuff is out of the question.

What I do need are some suggestions to a few introductory and advanced books to get started. Lots of time to read and start prepping before I can begin. And need to make some aux tables for my saw. (Ryobi 3100 clone). Since I do have a small bandsaw, I'll be looking and the Bandsaw boxes as well.

The forums on this site are fantastic,

    Glenn

    Hey Glenn,

I've read several of Doug Stowes' books and really like them. I'm currently working on some boxes from his, "Basic Box Making." There are plenty of projects of his that are very inspiring. He has several websites/blogs worth checking out too.

I also have a book on bandsawn boxes by Lois Keener Ventura, "Building Beautiful Boxes with Your Band Saw." I haven't built any yet, but she's got quite a few project options in her book. There are some great starter projects that I'll probably begin with myself.

Box Making Basics by David Freedman comes to mind as well.
Simply Beautiful Boxes by Doug Stowe.
Then there's Peter Lloyd...Andrew Crawford...and the list goes on.

And of course ..don't forget to check the Box Bits in the Forum Library here.

Did a review on the Stowes and Ventura books, look good and I did order thru Amazon, even have free shipping right now.

The Freedman book also looks good, maybe a purchase in the future. I find that when I am buying online its good to have some leads. I've always been an in person buyer but a little change of life styles.

Never really noticed the links to the Box BIts but the info sure looks good. Thanks mates.

Making Heirloom Boxes by Peter Lloyd. The Ultimate Band Saw Box by Donna LaChance. Box by Box Jim Stack.

There are heaps and heaps of books on the subject but probably one of the most exciting and informative ways of learning about box making is to try and get hold of a copy of Doug Stowes video "Basic Box Making"

    Good luck.

    Thumbs up

    Gday all,

I found a good lead from my sweetie , that's our own library system. Our libraries here are linked thru the I-Net, and as a member I can search for and put a 'hold / reserve' on any book I want right here at home. Then thru a courier system it will be picked up and delivered to our library here in the village. Nice way to preview before buying.

I did a search and only found 7 box making books in the system. A couple authors , Peter Lloyd and Andrew Crawford were listed. They are reserved for me, should be here by the weekend. I'll have them for 2 weeks. If there are no other reserves on them at that time then I can do a renew online with the click of the mouse.

In general woodworking there are over 400 titles available. Nice system but I think its not used by many people here. Even myself, not aware of this service and I instructed computer courses there for 3 winters. I'll have to have the librarian do a little public pr.

Thanks for leads, I'll be busy reading for a while, them some practice at the saw.

    Glenn
