Default Maple and purpleheart keepsake box

This one of my favorite wood combinations and possibly my best effort in small box making. I don't draw detailed plans for my boxes, just a quick sketch and some chalk marks on the stock. I simply ask the timbers what they feel like becoming and do my best to help them along.

This box features a lift off style lid and a divided lift out tray. I haven't got around to using fabric or flocking on my box interiors and have some regrets for not doing so.

All I hear from my timber is "don't hurt me".

    Absolutely beautiful work

Nice box, Dewayne, those timbers go well together, and the mitres look nice & tight - can be hard to get right when they're wide like the lid.

Nice looking box - well made. That maple has come up nicely.

I've been looking and looking and after a bit more looking I think the top is one piece of purpleheart with an inlay section - I think the grain runs all in the one direction . Either way it is an exceptional box .

Nice work--it almost looks like it was carved out of stone. Nice contrast in your choice of wood.

    Great box
sort of has an oriental look to it - something from Tibet or Nepal perhaps
    Superb!

Very nice. Nice contrasting colors. Is the body of the box one piece or did you miter the sides? Was the cove cut done before or after assembly? Again nice work.

I'll add my applause to the list as well - that purple heart is beautiful against the gold timber...

The box is a mitered glue up. The cove cut as well as other profile shapes and inlay stripes are made before the stock is mitered. I use a shop made sled at the table saw with the blade tilted to 45
