MDF or Ply
I'm really enjoying making my thankyou box and with the off cuts am now making a smaller box for the wife, and am sort of getting hooked.
sorry got a bit off track, I was looking at doing a lid similar to the style of the wave box posted recently. Similar as in cutting contrasting veneer pieces etc for the lid, not similar in pattern. What would be better, 3mm ply or 3mm mdf to stick the veneer pieces to?

I personally like using Ply for thinner stuff as i hate MDF with a passion and try not to use it as i hate the extremely fine dust and i just don't like it.
I personally use Birch Ply, but any ply that has a few cross veneers should be fine for piece of work.
3mm is damm cheap, and it makes for cheap templates, but thats all i like to use it for.

Ply, of course, mdf sags.
But 3 mm ply with 0.6 mm veneer on either side is pretty thin. Structurally it's sound but it feels cheap. I suggest 4mm minimum for a lid.Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.
