Default My first attempt at box

Hi all,
This is my first attempt. The wood is scrap decking, stringy bark I think.
I resawed using a bandsaw, thicknessed down to about 10mm.
I used Bote Cote epoxy glue and made the joins with my new Leigh R9 jig.
The jig's easy to use once it's setup properly, lots of testing needed on scrap first.
It needs a few more coats of shellac then I'm going to line it with some stiffened felt I got at Spotlight.

cheers
Tony

Tony, nice box. Have you made a cube and sliced the lid off, or is the overhang at the top the lid? Nice joints..

Hi there,
Thanks for all the positives.
Yes, I made the box then cut the lid off. I had to cut it off with a handsaw because I couldn't fit it in the bandsaw. I know next time to design the box so it'll fit.
I know some use their tablesaws to cut the lid off but I was terrified if I made a mistake then the box was ruined.
It's all about learning and enjoying the results.

Cheers
Tony

Wish my first box was a good as your, great work.
Do you have a specific purpose for it or was it just something you wanted to build?

How did you do the finger joints with a router or saw?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

I used my new Leigh R9 jig. It's very well made and once you get it calibrated you can do pretty good joins with it.
I made the box as a gift for someone, a jewellery box.

Cheers
