Northern Silky Oak Dice Tray
My youngest son sent me a picture of a dice tray , and internal dimensions he wanted (200 x 250 x 40), for his war gaming club. He wanted six of them made, one for each player at the table. I suspect over enthusiastic throwing of the dice flattened some battalions of their armies

Sample picture received Note the divider is screwed into position
I made 6 of them from Northern Silky Oak, with the divider recessed into the sides with a stopped slot. That took as long as the mitred boxes to do. I have used 2mm thick jarrah keys for the corners to strengthen the mitre joints
I finished them all with Cabot's Danish Oil. Had a lot of trouble with this finish, due to bleeding of the open pores, forming blister on the surface, very rough to touch. I had sanded the bare timber with 240 Grit paper as recommended, before applying any oil.

Ended up wet sanding it back with 300G, and leaving the slurry to fill the pores and dry to a rough finish. I then sanded lightly with 300G and 600G paper, then wet sanded with 600G paper and wiped it off immediately with a very smooth cotton rag. The end result was a very glass smooth finish and a slight satin effect, as originally intended.
I used casino green snooker table lining, made of 30% wool and 70% rayon, and should be hard wearing. The colour consistent with a gaming scene

Dengue, did you figure out how you were going to keep them all together like you were asking in your first thread about these trays? Nice work by the way.

I don't recall that as being a problem, Fumbler. Can you provide a copy of that text or a link to this please?

Ohhh...I had completely forgotten about that, during my Influenza A and pneumonia illness recently. Thanks for posting. That problem disappeared when my son told me he will not be carrying the trays too and from the game, as the trays and all the figures and stuff are left at the house where the war games are played in a dedicated room of the house.

Well done. Hope you are fully recovered
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Thanks Fumbler and Ruddy, back on deck, out of action for 12 weeks, missed all of Aug and Sept and half of Oct, the best times up here for the shed Still alive though And I had the pneumonia and influenza vaccine shots early in the year. Turns out they are only good for 3 months, according to my GP. That fact is not published
