Default NSO- Must be flavour of the month

Not to be outdone, just kidding, I mentioned recently I was gifted with a 1960's/70's Northern Stinky Oak cot, its such a striking timber I have 2 boxes on the go, one ready for separation (the one I'm posting today) the other in the process of production. lid very intricate glue up. photos to post in another thread.

but here's my quick 10min knock up, using Home made finger joint jig (made by someone else not me) Jig photo attached also. And a pic showing the layout of the individual lid pieces, all off-cuts put together to get a bigger piece for the lid. I rounded the corners over for effect (also to hide some tearout) but works nicely I think. it's a small jig tool box so will be used often and I'm just being rather knobish by making this but every bit of box making practice helps.

Lid separated using 1.6mm slot cutter on the router then cut through final 1mm with Japanese saw, then sanded, rather a nice join. The sanding board makes light work and gets dead flat surfaces. Hinge holes drilled. Just need to bevel the hinge edge, give a final sand and coat with finish. Not sure what finish I will apply yet. Ignore the base plate as I couldn't remove the sticker (why do they insist on putting non removable stickers on plywoodnsheets? It's not like people are going to swap labels), besides it will be covered.

2 coats of BLO, will leave for 24-48 hrs then buff out with paste wax. It's really made the grain pop.

i only have one in action not the full sled. Next time I'm at the shop I will take some more pics. It has 3 different cutting sizes, 1/2", 3/8" and can't remember the third. You can see the furniture screws, they are adjustable to make fit looser or tighter. By using feeler gauges.

It was made by a gentleman at our association for the club. Not sure where he got the plans from.

Totally finished. The box is actually for a jig I've had made. The insert (white is 4layer packing foam, found on the road side, luckily as I refuse to buy tool box insert at the ridiculous price they want for it) has shaped cut outs for parts to the jig. The lid insert is blue faux suede, with drill bit holder elastic ribbon.
